Indiana fire marshal shuts down amusement ride after Ohio tragedy
INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana’s fire marshal has directed all Fire Ball amusement rides to be immediately taken out of service after a deadly accident at the Ohio State Fair.
One person was killed and several others were injured at the Ohio State Fair Wednesday when the Fire Ball ride malfunctioned.
Before the fire marshal’s announcement, the Indiana State Fair posted on its Twitter account that the ride would not run when the fair begins on Aug. 4.
“As the investigation into the cause of this accident continues, the Indiana State Fair and North American Midway Entertainment have made the decision to not operate the Fireball at the 2017 Indiana State Fair,” the tweet read.
When asked at a news conference about the fair’s decision to remove the ride, Gov. Eric Holcomb said, “Simply better be safe than sorry.”
