Holcomb names Honda exec to lead Workforce Development
INDIANAPOLIS — Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Tuesday that Fred Payne will be the next commissioner at the Department of Workforce Development.
“Fred is the right pick to take our state’s workforce development agency to the next level,” Holcomb said in a statement. “His corporate experience at Honda has given him a clear perspective of employer workforce demands.”

During his time as the chief administrator at Honda, Payne led the company’s business division, overseeing corporate affairs, information service and administrative functions. Payne first joined the company in 2008 after working as the managing attorney for the Indiana office of Wessels and Pautsch.
“I am up to the challenge of leading a department that plays a vital role in our state’s future success,” Payne said.
Payne said he looks forward to working with Holcomb to continue to build upon the workforce system to better meet the needs of Indiana employers.
Payne’s first day on the job is Dec. 12.
