INDIANAPOLIS- Healthcare consultant Ann Vermilion will fill in the remainder of State Rep. Kevin Mahan’s term in the legislature.

A Republican caucus chose the former Marion General Hospital administrative director Tuesday over Steve Henderson and John Lancaster.

Mahan, R-Hartford City, had endorsed Vermilion to succeed him in the General Assembly. He announced in June that he was resigning to take a job with Community Health Network and move from District 31 to the Indianapolis area.

District 31 represents all of Blackford County and portions of Delaware, Grant, and Wells counties.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer said Mahan “leaves behind big shoes” to fill because of his involvement on issues related to law enforcement, government transparency and public health.

“I’m confident that State Rep.-elect Ann Vermilion will continue the tradition of delivering results at the Statehouse, and continue with the Republican way of balanced budgets, fiscal responsibility and great government service,” Hupfer said.
