Department of Education announces income guidelines for free and reduced lunch
INDIANAPOLIS – As the school year ramps for students around the state, the Department of Education has announced the guidelines for free and reduced lunch.
It’s part of the National School Lunch, School Breakfast and Special Milk Programs.
Students whose families qualify under federal guidelines may receive free or reduced price meals or free milk.
Students will be sent home with a letter and instructions on how to apply. Families who receive SNAP (food stamps) benefits or TANF will be automatically enrolled and do not need to fill out an application.
Foster children are eligible for free meals and free milk regardless of household income.
Households may apply for benefits at any time during the school year. If a household is not currently eligible but experiences a change in income, families are encouraged to apply at that time.
