Business groups endorse Lugar
The Statehouse File
INDIANAPOLIS – Incumbent Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., has picked up endorsements from two of Indiana’s most powerful business groups – the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Manufacturers Association.
Lugar, who is facing state Treasurer Richard Mourdock in the GOP primary, is a “knowledgeable, steady hand” Indiana and the country can depend on during these volatile times, said the chamber’s president, Kevin Brinegar.
Lugar has a 100 percent rating from the state chamber and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The National Association of Manufacturers has given Lugar a 92 percent rating, the highest of any U.S. senator.
Indiana Manufacturers Association President Pat Kiely said his group doesn’t typically endorse candidates in primary races – unless there is incumbent with such a strong pro-jobs record. Lugar is “a proven leader with proven record who we need fighting for Hoosiers in Washington, D.C.,” Kiely said.
Mourdock has picked up key endorsements from Indiana Right to Life and the National Rifle Association.
