INDIANAPOLIS—Hoosiers across the state may soon see more baby boxes at local fire departments after one lawmaker’s repeated attempt to pass legislation.
Senate Bill 123, authored by Sen. Travis Holdman, R-Markle, passed the Senate unanimously 47-0. The bill would expand the availability of newborn safety incubators, also known as baby boxes, across the state.
Indiana would be the 12th state to pass this legislation. Only two departments currently have a baby box installed, including one in Indianapolis.
The bill will now go to the House for action.
